Andy's Impact - Finding the Good
Thursday, March 3, 2011
On May 9th 2009 I went out and bought The Noticer. I started reading it that day and a little bit the next day, which was Mother's Day. My mother passed away a couple of hours after I talked to her on Mother's Day.
I wasn't able to go home to NS until Tuesday so I had the rest of Sunday and Monday here by myself. It was a hard time to be alone but I kept reading the book and the message of perception just kept coming to me and I found myself looking at the positives rather than the negatives. When talking to people I could focus on the good things. For example we didn't have to deal with chronic care or dementia or anything else that would have changed my mother from who she really was. For the most part, she was able to live the life she wanted to live right up until near the end.
I honestly thank God that I picked up the Noticer and that He used it to speak to me and help me celebrate the good as opposed to focusing only on what I've lost. I don't want to say it was easy, because it wasn't, her death affected me much more than I thought it would. However, that book has really helped me to look beyond the surface and find the bits of good.
