Here We Go

Click above to have Andy read the blog to you.

I don’t know when you are reading this, but I am writing it in the middle of the night.  That seems to be the proper time for a decision such as this.  Most public figures would be counseled earnestly to avoid what I am about to do . . .

Let me begin by acknowledging that I am a public figure, certainly a minor one, but my career is largely determined by whether people buy and share my books and materials . . . or not.  Therefore, somewhat like a politician, I am keenly aware that everything I say or do bears heavily on whether or not I am able to pay my bills.  And as we all know, words tumbled into cyberspace, once entered, can never be lost, retracted, forgotten, or successfully re-explained.

I have wondered for a couple of years now just what the heck I am supposed to be doing.  Isn’t that an odd thing to admit?  Really!  You and I are adults . . . aren’t we supposed to have a handle on everything? Confident, chest out, chin up, follow me, and all that . . .

From my point of view, day to day, doing the best I know how . . . I know I am supposed to write and speak. Okay . . . but what do I do? I mean, the world is changing quickly, my country has changed already and is in the process of changing everything for my boys, and their children, for a long time.

PAUSE . . .

I am thinking as I talk to you here—so bear with me.  I am aware that I haven’t yet revealed the direction my life is about to take.  Please be patient with my rambling on this blog.  Here on this blog—and only here—I am not writing with a deadline or word-count in mind.  I don’t have a specific blog-length calculated to attract the largest number of readers or a particular date figured on which to send this communication in order to make the biggest splash.  This letter, between you and me, here and now, is to allow me to question myself about what I do and how I do it.  You are being invited into this process that is usually quite private.   And yes, I am fully aware that this single document will allow you to determine whether you care to continue to read what I write and whether or not you share my thoughts and books with others in the future.

Back to the Text . . .

During the course of our relationship, whether you are a new friend of mine or have been in for the long haul, you have heard me convey how necessary I believe it is for us to ask good questions of ourselves.  In the past months, these are among the questions I have asked myself repeatedly:

To what degree has the culture in which I live . . . changed?  Overall, am I content with the changes that I now face.  Am I happy with schools, movies, my choices at the grocery store, my government locally and nationally?

Do I contribute enough to society?

Do I accept things and ideas and actions into my life and family that I would not have considered ten years ago? How have I changed with society?  Is this a good thing or a bad thing?  What will the world be like when my boys are in high school?

Is there a reason to insist my children respond “yes sir” or “no ma’am” to an adult?  Have I been raised in an area of the country that made me feel one way or the other about that kind of thing?  Is there a reason for “yes, sir” or is it an opinion—a preference—that one can let get in the way of more important things?

Am I producing this book or product just to make money or does it have another purpose?  Would I read this?  Do I wish I had known this information thirty years ago . . . or twenty . . . or ten?  Will this product I have produced help someone who is hurting, who needs direction, who needs confirmation?

Is the limited time I have available in my life being used wisely? Was the 2 hours I spent with that one person at the request of a friend really what I was supposed to do with my time?  Or should I have been with Polly and the boys?  Writing? Praying? Reading? Fiction or Non-Fiction?  How much should I sleep?   Should I ever just . . . play?

Why am I so drawn to history?  Is there something else I am supposed to find, to figure out in order to reveal to people?  What do I think I can do anyway?  Can I, one person, really do anything about our country’s direction or it’s ability or it’s culture?  Is my work with Special Ops or Military or Government people a justifiable use of the time I give?  Am I flying on this gunship to be cool and say I did it . . . or is there a reason for me to be here with these people?  Should I be somewhere else?

Do I drive or fly?  Business or coach?  Is one client more important than another? Is Augusta National Golf Club (who paid for me to spend an entire day speaking to every employee) more important than the Rotary Club in Zachary, LA (who gave me a coffee cup)?  I spoke to them because my friend Chris asked me to do so . . . and I had the hour open.

Should I attend the church supper on Wednesday nights?  Is a football game worth 3 hours of my time?  Do my clients think so? Do my boys think so?  Does God think so?

These are among the many questions I ask myself . . .

So . . . what are we seeking?  More importantly, if we want to ask a really good question:

What do our actions indicate we are seeking?

What difference are we making?  What difference did we intend to make this morning?  Do we even think about intending to make a difference?

The last few months have pointed me toward a specific search I am about to make in my life.  It will be a search for

The Real Truth

about a lot of different things.  If you and I have spent any time at all together, you are already aware that I do not consider myself a “motivational speaker”.  I am not into encouragement.  I am into proof.  I want to live a principled existence . . . a life that demonstrates again and again

if I invest the time to do THIS . . . then THAT will occur.

Some decades from now, I intend to conclude a life of faith that will show evidence of what I have believed.  I am fifty years old.  I am old enough to have already proven some things and young enough to make an exhaustive search for the answers I still seek.

In The Noticer, Jones’ proof of hope to Willow Callaway are the same words the old man spoke to me so many years ago.  Their urgent accuracy resonates now like a bell rung on a clear winter morning!

There is more!  Now!

There is more to share, more to earn, more to become, more to learn, more to create.  Real proof of hope demands we shake off the fear and rust and apathy and regret.  It’s time to move.

So here is what I intend to do:

I hereby offer you a Backstage Pass into my life.

Over the next few years, I want to think with you, learn with you, write with you in mind, share my discoveries, joys, fears, and questions . . . with you.  I am aware that I will be getting as much as I give.  With your encouragement, ideas, direction, and approval, I will be lifted up, challenged, and taught.

By way of Twitter, FaceBook, and this blog on AndyAndrews.com, I invite you to join me and involve yourself in actively building groups of people with whom you will influence in the future.

For a long time in my life, I believed that to change the world, I should stretch as high into society as I could possibly reach, touching Presidents and Kings and CEO’s.  There, I thought, was where the power existed to change everything.  I now know for a fact that the power to change everything, my friend . . . lies with you and me.

Remember this:  Whether President, King, or Governor, a politician is only an actor reciting lines and making moves according to a script that the audience is writing!

Most politicians make promises, react, vote, and shake specific hands according to the latest poll (script) they are given.  You and I write that script with our voices and our votes.

Now before you think you know where we are all headed in such an all fired hurry, listen carefully to what I have to say:

If you had asked me a year ago whether I was a Republican or a Democrat, I probably could and would have answered you.  But as my life has unfolded, I am increasingly aware that I am not an “us or them” kind of person.  I am a “WE” kind of person.  I believe there are “plumb lines” we can use and watch to establish right and wrong, forward or backward, yes or no.

You and I will search for guiding principles. I will put them into stories that will become books and recordings that you will be free to choose whether or not to use them in your search to create a team of people empowered to write what you believe should be the script for our next generation.

I invite you, whatever your age or technological ability, to learn to use Twitter, Facebook, and the Internet itself right now in order to join me and lead friends of your own to new levels of understanding and empowerment.  We will strive to create better families, more successful financial incomes for you, and a voice of civility and reason that will be heard around the world.

I believe there was a time in our past when leaders understood how to disagree.  They would disagree and argue points publicly, with humor and without the personal anger that serves only to divide their followers.  These men and women disagreed, but they remained friends (and friendly) to each other.

Only a few decades ago, we lived in a world where we knew our neighbors watched out for one another’s children, and encouraged each other personally and professionally without fear of violence or lawsuits.

It is a fact known to historians that less than 10 percent of the population of the former Soviet Republic actively worked to move their society into a nightmare of paranoia, isolation, and genocide that devoured several generations.  Accurate figures show that between 1917 and 1987, there were 61,911,000 lives lost to mass murder of their own people!  This was done, remember, in an attempt to create a utopian society.  Less than 10 per cent of the population was actively involved in creating the movement to power that caused this historical disaster.  And 90 percent did what? Waited?  Watched?  Believed obvious lies?

I am not attempting to use fear as a tactic.  History simply “is what it is”.  Neither am I pointing fingers at any particular leader, media group, celebrity, or politician who might be in office or out of office at this time.  Read nothing into what I am writing.  At this moment, I ask you to think no further than these words:

Let us not be scared about the future, let’s just do something!

It is time to return to an era of civility and understanding.  It is time to NOTICE the value of our fellow man and exalt him and his efforts.  Our country must no longer be divided by color, or finances, or political affiliations.  Our spiritual lives are important . . . our religious denominations less so.

Our children, our very world is waiting for us to move . . . to write the script that is right and good and necessary.  It’s time to move.

Here we go!

Yours,

Andy

P.S. Click below to watch some of my very best friends. . . listen carefully to their words!

"Hey there Andy my sweet friend! I'm out of town (another road trip)! and wifi isn't working great so I plan on sitting down when I'm home and really reading and thinking about this. I just want you to know how simply amazed I am with your success. I so hope to see you soon. I'll write more soon.

"Andy-
I'm hearing your call and I've wondered many of the same things you have. I'm 48 years old, same generation as you and my faith is an integral part of me as it is for you.

so my question is, now what? what do we next? do you already have a plan or do you need help to create one?

I'm standing by ready to Build and Ark!

Warmest regards, Ken Camut

"Andy,
We have never met,so I cannot call you my friend...yet...but I am delighted with your video..your thought process...but more important your call to action...
We all have the same moments we have...whatever they may be...May God use your life and mine to impact other's lives and change how we all choose to live our lives on earth.
...and that cup...in our neck of the woods that has value beyond its worldly measure...as do most things in God's economy. Thank you for going to the little towns too...and for listening to your heart...

Best Regards,
Sweetie"

"You spoke to my heart on many levels here.

1. "If you and I have spent any time at all together, you are already aware that I do not consider myself a “motivational speaker”. I am not into encouragement. I am into proof." I say the same thing but after doing some public speaking people are pushing me to do more, and I tease God has to drag me first. Unfortunately he is dragging. I got a "lecture" just from my husband this morning about how I let my insecurities get in the way. I want to know what I do is matter, not because I want a lot of people looking at me. (if that makes any sense at all). A coincidence I read this after my husband pushing me this morning?? Don't think so.

2. I to could tell you my political leanings but now things are changing. My plumb line is God's word and I see all sides falling away. I know we win in the end, it is the in-between that has me on my knees.

3. I have to say out of all your stories in "The Noticer" Willow's story hit me the hardest, in fact I called Mom and read it to her over the phone. If we are breathing...WE ARE NOT DONE. Being silent has been an option before, I believe it is becoming less of an option now.

Sorry I rambled, but I just wanted to let you know this post spoke to my heart. Reaffirmed things that have been swirling in my heart. Now my prayer for me personally is that I point my efforts towards the area that will make the largest impact on peoples lives spiritually. For me personally that is stepping out of the comfort zone and teaching. And speaking where God is leading.

Look forward to following you on this journey.

Blessings,

Lori Kasbeer"

"Andy,
You have put into words exactly how I have felt recently. And I thought it was Menopause causing me to ask myself those questions, or maybe my age. I'm 52, wondering how I can make a difference, what should I be doing with my life in small ways, in big ways. How can I help my family and friends become the best they can be. How can I make the world a better place? Should I donate my time and money to an organized cause or Mission, or simply in small ways affect those around me. Thanks for the Blog. I first heard you speak in SanDestin at a RE/MAX Conference and have read your books. Thanks for your work and I wish you much success. Phyllis Olive"

"Andy,

Wish I could have said it as well. I write Nuggets For The Noggin with the intent of making a difference and leaving a legacy. Have written over 260 of them. I know where you are coming from. I rarely watch a current movie; don't need the foul language or violence; I rarely watch the news, (if it bleeds, it leads). I read a lot but reading alone does not get me involved. Getting involved with activities that support your core values is a good thing and more of us should be doing it. Thank you for waking us up.

I hear you, so many questions with so many different possiblities. I wonder if we did beleive in absolute truths would it be easier to answer so many questions. The cry for tolerance has led to so much indifference because you don't know where to start and where to stand."

"Andy,
My husband and I first met you almost 5 years ago in Cancun. From that day, we were motivated, inspired and and many ways guided by your words and your life.

Earlier this year, my husband passed away. Although I have "felt lost" in many ways since that day, I have found re-direction in your tapes, books and posts which have served to assist me in finding a purpose for ME as an individual instead of as a part of a couple.

I clearly hear your "Call to Action" my friend and Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am here with you, for the long haul, for you have unknowingly been with me for so long."

I am intrigued by your "Build An Ark" program and definitely want to make my contribution, however small that may be. I already follow you on Twitter and Facebook and faithfully read your books and blog, so I will be sure to watch what you post. Please let me know how I can help. "Thanks, Andy, for making a difference and wanting to continue. We've read all your books and been touched by them all. I believe God continually works through those who listen and get up off the couch. You've helped me in that my ears are more open and my feet are on the floor :-) I am blessed to have just moved to the Austin, TX area and to have met some great people associated with Gateway Church - whose feet are really flying. I look forward to where this Arc might lead as well."

"I am fairly new to the ministry and have been asked to preach at my first revival for a friend. God has seen fit to give me a message but I needed confirmation. A couple of weeks ago, Janet, my lovely wife of 43 years, said how about that sermon on the "plumb line". And today, a second confirmation in your blog. Sometimes God works directly and sometimes indirectly. Whatever the case I got the message. Thanks for being you."

Also, having known your parents, I know that their pride would be overwhelming if they were here to participate in it. "Great Andy !
Yes, let's build an Ark. I would love to be even a small part of this step forward. I am moving to Round Rock, TX in a few weeks, getting married, & involved in my new community & church. Perhaps this will be a place where "our actions should indicate that we are still seeking" for the total betterment of our society. Yes, "yes sir" & "no sir" are needed, desired, & demonstrate good values in our future young leaders.
I'll be reading, listening, & trying to figure out what I too can do to contribute!
Thank you so much."

"Andyman! I have been so deeply impressed in my mind and heart over the past two months that each one of us (everybody reading you, me, or whomever) that we are so blessed because we are to make a difference in the world around us!
Our friendship has only reinforced what God is showing me: I am to be a difference-maker! The ways of the world are such that either we are making a difference for someone(s) or someone else will impact us. Change is constant and inevitable, but is also manageable by our application of faith, values, and personal conviction

Thanks so much! Prayers, Alan"

"You are truly a inspiration . I heard you speak for the first time in the Bahamas in 2008 . The stories you shared had help me mold my life differently . I have the most incredible relationship with my husband because we now speak the correct language to each other. Even with my kids life is no longer how it was . The Noticer was incredible . I didn't put it down till i was done. I loved it .

I believe it is important to have someone as a mentor or a role model . Andy you are definitly a man that fills those shoes for me . I have many people I care to model myself after , you hold a strong influnence .

"Andy,

You are truly a blessing inspiring us and challenging us to ask the hard questions and then respond with the right answers AND actions. Since the most important decision is "I am a person of action", consider me on the team. I have been sharing your insight with so many others --- one whose life has been so impacted by your message after giving up on life and attempting suicide. He now realizes he does have a reson to live. Let's continue to take positive action and change the world.
Thank you for all you do,

"Andy,
I am around the age you are and I realize that I have put more years behind me than I have ahead of me. This is not a negative, it just Is.
Since my dad passed away suddenly in May, I have used this time to ask, What Is The Purpose Of My life? (Again -I've asked this question before, but now I'm at a different point). The questions we ask....you ask....we all (hopefully) ask....lead me to think that the quality of The Result (result being the balance of my life) will be based on the quality of the questions I ask....I come up with the best questions when I open myself up to positive, truthful, influential sources....your message leaves me thinking about much.... what I take from it initially is Sincerity.....your message is Sincere....I know with my kids I love to get them going and we have lots of laughs but at the end of the day I want them to know that I can be sincere in my interaction with them and others....which leads to integrity, asking honest questions and accepting honest answers. Thanks"

"Albert Einstein said "The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing."

It seems to be a common belief among many that in order to realize progress you have to relinquish everything from the past. I personally believe that is throwing the baby out with the bathwater. There are so many signs that portions of the world have gone mad; things such as the need for metal detectors in school and people having arguments which are settled with guns, just to name two off an endless list.

You are right it is time to do something! Take one step, make a stand and make the next right decision. Do the next right thing. Then repeat those steps over and over again.

I know the answer to when do we start … NOW … but HOW do we start?"

I've been blessed to meet you at a few of our companies' conferences, and with your blog this morning, I feel like you've been sent to me (and the world!) at a perfect time. Once again, you're raising questions that are so poignant to my life, right here, right now, today. I will make different, better choices today because of your blog, and with that, my life, and the lives of the people I work and play with, will improve. "Andy,
I'm behind your "thinking." I try to live by "How you think, Is how you Feel, Is how you Act." I do believe we can change the world one person at a time. Eunice Kennedy Shriver is a good example that you don't have to be a poitician to affect millions of lives. We may not have the financial means that she had, but we do have some talent or personality trait that can help others. I treasure your books and the wisdom I have gained by them. I look forward to joining your Journey."

"ANDY,

That was an amazing BlOG...I have been a stay at home dad for the past nine years. My youngest is going to school this year and I am searching for God's Plan for me. What do I want to be when I grow up? WHat should I be doing with my life? I am only 39 years old, but I want to share my experiences and beliefs with others. I would also like learn from those who have experienced life in different areas. If you are ever in Wisconsin, I would love to be there for you and your team. Looking forward to building the Arc with the many followers. Thanks and God Bless!"

The Noticer - wow how powerful. Someone shared with me "The Noticer" before I could read it my husband then my cousin, visiting from GA, read it. My husband has never been so impressed or affected by another secular book. Finally it came my time to read it. Since that time we have purchased and given away numerous copies knowing this book will be an inspiration to others. I pray God will bless your new direction as you share the talents He has given you.
God bless,
Bobbie"

We need to have a leader to give us unity and direction.... even if right now it's just through a blog. With our thoughts and prayers in one accord, we WILL touch many! Thanks for your inspiration! I sincerely appreciate your frank, honest and open dialog. It’s refreshing and reminds me to live in both humility and abundance at the same time. I am a long time fan of your words and works and am continually stimulated by the rudder you provide to so many. "Andy,

You have had a lot of influence in my family (My wife, oldest son and myself have read your books, watched your dvd's or listened to your audios).

Me and my wife, Gina, first heard you many years ago at a business meeting. Though we don't do that business anymore, you flapped your little butterfly wings and your words of encouragement have echoed in our minds many many times since. As they say where I grew up.... "Andy is good people". You have made a difference...thanks for being on our board of directors.

"Dear Mr. Andrews:

First I want to say thank you for what you do. I am a 64-year-old retired social worker and I have been an avid follower of yours for a number of years. I first saw you on PBS with Seven Decisions and while I have seen, listened to and sat through many speakers over the years, “you just made sense.” I instantly bought your CD and have shared it with family, friends, coworkers, staff and the community and have seen lives changed. Long-long story short, I have been driven from many directions this year to make a difference somewhere, somehow. I’ve simplified my life by downsizing, cleaning up and clearing out. “I am now ready, willing and able to make a change.” I have seen a lot of life and have numerous skills and life experiences to share. "Hey Andy,

Yes one person can make a difference - I believe in the butterfly theory - I think I got the belief from you! Your actions matter and have affect well beyond yourself.

I also recognize how wonderful the world could be in a very short period of time if everyone strived to be a better version of ourself; physically, emotionally, spiritually and intellectually - that revelation is attributed to Matthew Kelly.

It really is just so simple........

When detemined people work together they can accomplish anything - Jim Casey - Founder of UPS.

This is the first time I have actually read your blog and I am so glad I did. I actually got introduced to you through KW Seminar years ago and have been reading your books since. I also have been feeling the same things your feeling. I was raised by very old school parents and feel that I am one of the last of those breeds. I listen to everyone complain about what is going on but no one wants to do anything about it. I have been wondering lately what am I here for? What can I do, what am I supposed to be doing? I am also from your generation and already have a grandchild and still two younger kids at home and I am so concerned for their future. I am so on board with what you are saying and am looking forward to helping make a difference."

"Andy, as a parent you are obligated to raise your children so that they are responsible and civilized when you turn them loose on society. You say you want our society to return to a level of civility that seems to have eroded. Therefore, your first steps should be to instill common courtesies in your boys. Civility is the result of courtesy and politeness. Teach them to say "yes, sir" and "no, sir." Teach them to hold doors and give up their seat. Teach them to take off their hats indoors and especially at the dinner table. Teach them to assert their educated opinions without losing their composure. If more parents did that, eventually it would become more commonplace again, there would be more civility."

"Andy,
You have put into words so very much of the same thoughts, ideas and questions that are currently taking place in my own 50-year-old life. I don't believe it is coincidence. I believe God is stirring people up in a way that will begin to bring so many of us back together is a cohesiveness not seen for some time in our country.

The questions you ask in this blog sound as though you have been listening to my own ramblings - for lack of a better word. I am questioning everything, searching out the truth, seeking to learn from history, desiring to de-clutter my life of things that serve no purpose, take up space, need to be dusted too often, or just use up my time in ways that don't seem to produce anything worthwhile.

I see the same thing happening with so many of my friends. And I am also seeing a renewed - and sometimes brand new - interest in becoming more self-sufficient and prepared. People who have never gardened before are having an overwhelming urge to grow their own food.

Before I lose complete track of where I'm going with this, let me say I am looking forward to joining with you on this journey. I have heard you speak and met you twice - once in Dallas and recently in Fairhope. We have mutual friends and, it seems, mutual ideas and questions. Thank you for being so open and willing to share; I believe it will do us all good!"

"Andy,
I have been noticing,,, the Tea Parties and Town Hall Meetings are growing more and more vocal. I believe it boils down to righteous vs. unrighteous anger and indignation. It is ok to be angry and to express your indignation in a matter if you are RIGHT. (i.e. Jesus in the temple turning over the money changers tables) When we become angry and indignant without righteousness on our side, it is called ARROGANCE. I have been arrogant (I want what I want, when I want it, just because I THINK I deserve it). I find it much more comfortable and rewarding to be in a position where I want what I want because it is the RIGHT & RIGHTEOUS thing to do, by social, legal and moral standards. It seems to me that the leftist liberals who are pushing their extreme policies on the public today are having a hard time justifying them as either right or righteous. They are dealing from a position of PRIDE and ARROGANCE.
Proverbs 11:2 (NASB) When pride comes, then comes dishonor, But with the humble is wisdom.
Just a little something to kick start the discussion.

"Andy, Great message!! I've been there. Had a dream to retire early, was blessed to acheive that goal, but forgot to set another goal. Floundered for a few years and in Jan. 2004 hit my knees & asked for guidance. So many things came into my life in the next 12 months. Guitar, music, songwriting, music ministry, introduced to a great business, new friends, positive like-minded folks, and wrote a book, "If Your Baby Could Talk...Would You Listen? (I believe I sent you a copy). Here is what you have made me realize today, right now!! I will read and be in a personal growth mode for the rest of my life. I only have a limited time for this part of my life. There have been some authors that don't align with what I have believed and how I have felt. What if......I buy their books, support them and THEY run for office. I have by proxy, supported their positions. Andy, I was hoping you were going to run for office! You had my vote. Effective today, there will be a couple of authors that will never see revenue from me again. Andy Andrews, you will never be able to write a book that a LARGE part of this country will not buy, me included. You and your family should never be short grocery money with the talent and ability that God has given you. You write and we will buy and read. You record and we will buy and watch. In fact, on one of your meals, after you thank the Lord, thank ol' Greg, I've bought you a few and will continue.

"Andy, thank you...it is SOOO nice to hear someone reminding us that there is STILL hope in this society. I'm with you buddy. As a teacher, I cannot tell you how discouraged I get watching today's kids care absolutely nothing for ethics and to see kids raised in a society that no longer teaches morals. Your books are MUCH more than "motivational" tools. I use your 7 decisions in my classroom and I spend the first few days of class focusing my kids on persistance. Although this focus is mainly on passing a major state exam, the kids have told me that it is a lesson that they have taken with them and I always encourage them to read your material and continue learning. So let's go buddy - I'll join Bill and the Gaither family and you and let's Build an Ark. God bless, brother."

"hi andy - again, thanks you so much for sharing your life. 2 things, i guess.

1. in America - our country - we have the BIGGEST generation gap - EVER - in our young countries time. 70 years. that's big - when it comes to racism, racial tension, revenge, forgiveness, love and partnerships.

2. racism is a big deal. revenge is a big deal and lot's of people - adhere to the "i am god philosophy." - meaning that we are all god etc...

i personally believe we are all - as human - sentient beings - connected in this collective miracle. but i do happen to believe in the almighty - Abba - father and a higher power and an entity that is bigger, better and more loving than men and women. i also believe in man's subjective view at his our hers own life and believe you parents are at the tippy top of this creation.

i have been learning to relax and let it go and let god - somewhat, these days. i am actually "fazing out" my social networking and being "out there" all the time. - i will probably faze out my cell phone and less internet.

anyway - my goals and dreams and yes - those - pesky ambitions have changed. they probably always will. but - i know there is a god and he loves me - and i will still go on. but - that is just me.

well - kind sir - again - do not stop - keep on going and try to live Christs parable of the "plowshare". it's helped me.

god bless - josh"

"Andy,
To mix all kind of metaphors, let me say within the last year, you sprang up on my radar screen like the sun after an eclipse -- incredibly and radiant, compelling me to read (and distribute) all your books, follow your blog and I'll add you to my Facebook after this middle-of-the-night entry. Maybe I am hearing a slightly different drumbeat in your message than some of your other respondents -- some syncopation, if you will -- and it crystalized for me in #15's joining with you to "Build an ARC" rather than ARK! Bless his 75 year old heart! Wow -- THAT's the image that pulled me up short!

My own heartbeat is "facilitating transformation" -- it's in my God-given DNA to do that, wherever I go, with whomever I encounter and in whatever activity I am participating. What scares me the most about where so many of my fellow believers seem to be at the moment is they are ready to encase themselves in an ARK with the door pulled up whereas I (perhaps like you might be -- I'm not clear on that yet) am feeling called to help create an ARC of civil connection and, thus, help shape the ARC of our collective future.

I was with Os Guiness a few months ago and he said (roughly paraphrased) one of America's most dangerous enemies right now is her increasing lack of civility among her own citizens -- especially among Christians. As he so eloquently argues in The Case For Civility, a democratic republic cannot operate without civil dialogue among people of differering points of view. To have dialogue is not the same thing as compromising one's own values and beliefs. Yet to say that out loud lately generally puts me in "no man's land" with both sides firing at me -- that stance doesn't pass the conservative litmus test well enough to suit the Far Right and certainly is not behaving liberal enough to suit the Far Left; both extremes only agree on one thing these days: "something is wrong if someone will gladly speak to the other side, let alone engage them in civil dialogue and sometimes --heaven help us all -- agree with them on something!" So, Andy -- my cyber-friend from afar --if that's the sort of conversation you are looking to have, COUNT ME IN (whether we agree or not)! Let's build an ARC. Seems to me that was the color-filled image God ultimately used AFTER the flood that required that other ARK to promise He would not almost give up on humanity again! He would order no more physical, mental or emotional ARKS -- no need for them! So emphatic was this shift in instructions, that He has you and me on this earth right now to notice we are here after Jesus said "Go OUT and talk to them -- ALL of them! (Mt 28:19-20)

All that said, I do love (and know some of) the Gaither Vocal Band (expanded group too) -- great song! It will rattle around in my head all day now!"

You have such clarity of thought and the brilliant gift of getting your (and ours) thoughts down on the printed page! I'm in. So as so many above in the SIXTY FIVE previous comments asked, What Next? I too, have asked so many of those questions; I'm a beginning blogger, been Tweeting for a while, and have been on FB for a bit longer than that. In fact, I just Tweeted a partial line from something Abe Lincoln said to David Ponder in 'The Traveler's Gift' this morning: "..public opinion might sway back and forth, right and wrong do not." THAT line right there answers a lot of these questions.
I too, am ready to Build An Ark. Let's get started!

"I read/listened to your post with great interest. Before 'signing on' to share and encourage my friends with your postings, I'd like to get a little clearer idea on where you stand on some fundamental things that I use as a weighing scale for those whom I choose to support. Please feel free to email me and share these views. How do you stand on the issue of abortion? How do you stand on the issue of illegal immigrants? How do you stand on the issue of God being removed from our schools and other parts of society?

Other issues that greatly concern my husband and myself are issues regarding the way people are paid. I'll give you a little 'snip' of the running conversation in our home the last several weeks. Recently the government voted and pushed through yet another pay increase for minimum wage jobs. Don't jump to conclusions yet -- hear me out. I'm not against people getting a pay increase. What does bother me is that my husband went to college to get a degree to do what he does and yet in the last 15 years the people who do the minimum wage jobs have gotten more increase in the salary than my husband has gotten in his! This then makes all the products they touch go up in price - making it harder and harder for us to afford the daily things. This year, my husbands company decided not to give a pay raise --- with exception of course to all those guys sitting at the 'top of the heap' -- they will of course get their pay raises and huge bonuses! We discuss these things and realize to limit or say no to any one group brings us closer to a socialistic nation and yet somehow things need to be done in a way that makes things fair for everyone. How is it that a company can refuse even a cost of living increase? How is it that companies can make it impossible for employees to even complain; if you do then you are considered a trouble maker and you could loose your job! My husband has been with his particular company for over 25 years. Two years ago, his boss at the time made it clear that they were wanting to get rid of all the 'older' employees. While that is illegal, he was making all kinds of moves to try to make the older employees look bad so he had reason to write them up. Thankfully, cooler heads prevailed elsewhere and at least my husbands record was cleaned up.

I've shared all this with you to let you know these are the kinds of things people across the nation are struggling with right now. I know we are not alone in this struggle and I'm also not sure how it's going to get resolved.

Thank you for your time in reading this.

By the way, we have been BIG fans of yours for years now and have just finished your FABULOUS book "The Noticer!"

Sincerely,
Sue Simons"

"Andy, beautiful... I would reply: "The mind is a mere gateway for thoughts and words...it is not just the public speeches, the books, the blogs or the articles that carve out ones path of historical legacy, it is the energy you carry, the hands you hold, the heart you have." You are all heart Andy, and THAT is what is going to keep changing the planet to one that is indeed a more collective "WE"!"

"Oh, Andy, thank you! Thank you for putting into words, feelings and longings of the heart that I, and obviously many other of your followers, have been experiencing! There is nothing more affirming than confirmation; the knowledge that the cries within our spirits are not cries we alone have heard. The Founders of this nation did all in their power to create a government and support a cultural perspective that would be in a constant state of oversight by the people most impacted by its tenets and intention: its citizens. We have gradually, but relentlessly, withdrawn the commitment to proper understanding, and resultant ACTION, required to protect the legacy. I pray that as truly thoughtful people, called to be 'noticers' of the most positive kind, seek wisdom from the Lord God on whose principles the foundations of this country were placed, we will see a new direction and purpose in applied effort to impact our nation and the culture of life itself for goodness, just behavior, and righteousness. God bless you for your courage and your willingness to take a stand that not only purports to believe, but ACTS upon, the immutable principle/law called 'cause and effect'. I'm in!"

"My fondest, early childhood memory was of a class trip to Fort Morgan. I believe it was because I was 'educated' by Jones as only he could weave the fabric of history that was woven on that day. My life was forever changed.

From the beginnings in Silverhill, AL to Malibu and Lincoln Jr. High in Santa Monica to the hallways of Hollywood High and award assemblies that included Dr. Zhivago: The award assembly for Dr. Zhivago was introduced by HHS grad Carol Burnett (always a pleasure to meet, I include a link to Carol's introduction by Julie Andrews at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2003 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFhHyUIyxww )...

Amazing words you have shared here! Recently, a friend of mine told a story about praying before a meal with his family. Everyone said, "Amen" after the blessing. His youngest daughter was a hair slow in saying it, and when she did, she said, "I'm in!" instead of amen. He went on to talk about that response as an even more significant response to a prayer than the traditional "amen" because it is a statement of action and not just intellectual agreement. So.....I'm here to say, "I'm in!""

"Andy,

Like so many of the earlier replies to your blog, I too have been an avid reader of “Andy Andrews” thoughts, e-mails, videos, CDs, books and blogs. I appreciate the open (and rapidly growing) dialog you have started with this blog and wish you luck in sifting through the stories and consolidating them into a book, which of course will be pre-ordered by me as soon as you announce it.

Asking questions is a topic that I have heard many times in the past and Bobb Biehl (MasterPlanning Group) is another author who has started me in the process of trying to ask GOOD questions. I had actually just read one of his books yesterday which talks about doing essentially what you have done in your post…writing down all of the questions that swirl through our thoughts. It’s not only enlightening but it lightens the spirit just writing them down. Now for the hard part…answering the questions and looking for what are the root causes (and the after-effects) of asking those questions.

Thanks for today’s food for thought,

Pete"

"Andy,

I was having some of these same thoughts this morning as I drove to work, especially what the future will look like for my kids.

I know for certain that the majority of God fearing Americans are having these same feelings and thoughts you have suggested in your blog. I don't care what the controlled media is saying...

There are millions ready to stand up for good and what is right. I for one will join you and not be silent. We must get back to the basics and magnify the importance and value of every person.

Turn off your TV's and look toward the heavens......God has saved this promised land(America) for his divine purposes, and he will not be ignored. We have forgot about him and apathy has reared its ugly head. We all must wake up and recognize it starts with each one of us. We can do better! Much better!

Thank you for the positive messages and inspiring books etc. It is people like you that are making a massive difference. We can all help in our own little way.

Ready to move with you!"

The WE is inclusive, caring, belonging. When I read "Those people..." in the blog responces, it strikes me that this message you are bringing forth is needed and wanted. Some of the blog responces are a perfect example of pointing out what the people are creating and have created as a way of being, that divides the we into Those and Me or US.

"Andy,

Seems you are on to something with this post Andy and it seems to me that your call to action has support; so, thank you and congratulations. Now what?

I heard this from you, you may have stolen it from someone else, “if it is important, and if it will change peoples lives, you must decide to commit.” This phrase haunts me, much like rows of filing cabinets haunt David Ponder, in that everyday, everything we do or do not do, matters.

My book is now a physical reality, I sit here holding it in my hands and had it not been for your inspiration at times when I needed it most, “The Trials and Triumphs of Down Syndrome ©” may have never been written. Now it’s time for the book to go to work, and change lives for generations to come; and not just for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families; but for all that come in contact with my story.

One day soon Andy, when the vision I have written in my book becomes reality; I would like you Andy, to tell those that gather at the opening of “The Trail” , the story of Abraham Lincoln as only you can, and introduce me as only you can.

Truth is Andy, there are among us a great many that will act, if only we know that there others of like mind to support us, when so many tell us we cannot.

I’m in,
Kelly"

Keep on building an Ark, as you are taking many people along with you it will take some time to build, but I rest assured that you will fit us all in somehow.

"Andy,

Just know that you changed my life with your books and principles of success. I first read "The Travelers Gift," during a terrible time in my life. Six years later, I am debt free, earn a six-figure income, and coach, teach, and train hundreds of people. All this not to brag but rather to acknowledge it is because of your books. Thank you with more gratitude than you may realize... Yet again you do realize and understand, because for me you have been my "Jones." Thanks - I am Forever Grateful."

"Andy,
I've embraced the message you've spoken and written over the years in such a heart-engaging, soul-searching,mind-stimulating and life-changing way. But this message today put's it right here in my lap...and as a 62 year old grandma of 10 grandkids, and a manager with 20+ agents looking to me for inspiration and direction, I am delighted to get on board. And how exciting it is to see all the other people that want to join you in making a difference in our world, starting right here, today. I've been praying that God would help our nation, I just didn't know He was going to use you, me and all the rest of these wonderful folks, but judging by everyone's comments, I'm a part of wonderful movement. Thank you Andy for opening this door!"

"Andy, 1st time writer, long time follower. I, too, have wondered about these very same issues. I am not sure where to go with them as I work to build a business that helps people actually change their financial life. I know that both can be done at the same time, otherwise, why build, hope and grow into the people God wants us to be? I am actively seeking a "grass roots" platform that is neither republican, democrat, white, black--one that encompasses thinking caring people who want to work for the betterment of this community, nation and world. thanks for putting my thoughts into words."

I have been following you for a couple of years after seeing your video. I am in the education field and agree that times have changed. We need to work together to build a better future for the children that follow us. I agree that this can only be done through common people and not the higher powers that be in our society. I love your ideas and will keep praying that God blesses your plan and keeps inspiring you to inspire others. Thanks for all you."

"Right on! I hate the labels! Conservative - liberal - labels that do nothing but divide us! I believe there is a little liberal in the most conservative and a little conservative in the most liberal. My mama always said " There is some good in the worst of us & there is some bad in the best of us- so it behooves the rest of us - NEVER TO JUDGE." What we have lost in this new culture is RESPECT - for each other. When the power of love overcomes the love of power we will have true peace....just hope it is in the lifetime of our kids and grandkids."

94. Carol:

"Andy,
You are very inspiring. You make one stop, pause and question and reflect. I liked very much what JB said about labels and judging others. And the loss of respect among our leaders today. I remember two teachers at the school where I taught, one a strict consevative and one a strong liberal. The students knew where they came from and were always amazed at their close freindship, despite there different political views. Where has this form of respect gone? Thank you for giving people a voice, for giving them time to share how they feel and for motivating them to act in a positive way!
God bless.."

We are all different and we must accept that. Love, respect, caring, warmth, smiling!, we need them all.
Thanks for your gifts and your searchings! I loved the Ark song video, too."

attempted to join the technologically savvy by subscribing
to Twitter. As I sat and made a mental list of the people
I would like to be inspired by (because that was the sole
reason to embark down the Twitter highway), your name
was at the top of my list. At this point of my life (you &
I are the same age), I am only interested in surrounding

"Andy, you always seem to put into words in your talks, your blogs and your books the really important feelings and thoughts we mostly think silently to ourselves.

Now once again up you have your finger on the pulse of the nation and its people. Our culture is out of whack and its citizens are crying out for real leadership and love from the people.

Thank you so much for so often expressing the questions that so many of us from our generation (50 plus) and others are silently asking ourselves.

You're right ... it IS time to do something! Indeed let us build an ark together. I liked Paul Krupin's comments (Response #57) on a suggested action plan to begin doing just that. Andy, my friend, you are much appreciated and much loved.

Count me in!

"Dear Andy,

One morning during my quiet time, I was pondering why there are so many divisions in the Christian Church. I am not a prophet, but I do love the Lord supremely. The answer was revealed to me, I believe by the Holy Spirit. He seemed to say, "Because you have not kept the Main Thing, THE MAIN THING." I then asked, "What is the main thing, Lord?" The Holy Spirit directed me to Romans 11:36, "For of Him and through Him, and to Him are all things, to Whom be glory forever. Amen." It was as if I were being told, "Remember to keep the Main Thing, THE MAIN THING, Nelson." What is the MAIN THING? JESUS CHRIST! Then, ever so gently the Spirit seemed to say, "Remember it is all about Jesus, and Jesus is all about you." Thank you for the opportunity to share a little with you, as you have shared so much with me.

Love in Christ Jesus,

Nelson Worden

"Andy--When I was young I was a “noticer,” it got me into a great deal of trouble. Is seems that many people didn’t want to be noticed by their actions. So I stopped noticing out loud. But I kept thinking!

Now we have you, a public figure, voicing the thoughts, concerns, ideas and beliefs many of us hold dear. For years I too have promoted the concept that together we are stronger than we are separately.

I believe in celebrating differences and embracing commonality. I am afraid that, today, the fabric of civilization around the world is being ripped by vilifying differences and certifying commonality. It seems we are coming into the age of disrespect, dislike and dismissal….an age built on fear and hate. It appears to be much like the opening of the last century and the outcome of that was devastating.

Recently friends and I have been chatting about when it became okay to lie, cheat or steal to reach a given end. We have developed several theories but no solutions. You have presented a possible solution. How delightful! Let’s get moving! And count me in!"

"Andy,
You will for ever have a place in my life. Your PPS special and books launched me in a direction I would never have seen coming. I have listened to countless audio books from authors that a became aware of through your web site. I found only one problem, the message started to repeat, just in different words. Then I came upon the recording of the "A NEW EARTH" by Eckhart Tolle. What I have learned from this book would be what mortar is to bricks. Your information is the bricks and A New Earth the mortar. If you have not listen to or read this book, I strongly suggest you take the time. I hope that you are at a point in your life that it will resonate with you like your words resonated with me years ago. Thank You so very much!"

We have a whole church full of people who are different - different colors, different sexual preferences, etc. But with one thing in common - everyone is treated with courtesy and respect and no one sits in judgment on anyone else.

I have to purchase two of your books this week so I can read one and give the other to my pastor to read on vacation.

This should be an excellent adventure!"

But when it's time to mull over the ideas, consider some alternatives, make some decisions, and TAKE SOME ACTION, I'm glad I can scroll through the written word. More time for reflection. Please consider both reading and writing the text. I'm with you on the questions you asked. I know something is terribly wrong with the world as it is now but don't have a group of friends who want to talk about it. Your blogs give me someone else who is putting my vague anxieties into clear questions and statements. Now a chance to talk to other like-minded people?? Let's get started!"

We are moving into the authentic revolution, and the age of transparency.

We're all waking up as a population to understand that you can't fake who you are, or play the role (posing as I like to call it) without having to pay for it with your integrity and soul.

I love that so many people are waking up and stepping into their power and just flat out becoming "Real"

I know it takes courage, I know it can be scary, but at the end of the day, it's the only way to really live.

Thanks for creating the dialogue and opening the communication for the Tribe to lead the way to a better world, and better lives for all of us in it.

"Does it crack anyone else up to read this blog and the comments?

I mean that most respectfully as I really enjoy Mr. Andrews and the majority of his messages.

Call me a pessimist...

What do I mean? I'm not entirely clear as I am simply sharing my immediate two cents. But I can see that there are people following Mr. Andrews from a lot of different perspectives. Moving to "action" means many different things to folks.

The "don't judge" mantra that reigns heavy is garbage...every time we say we like or dislike a movie, we are "judging" it. We are called to "judge" according to a certain standard, and our society functions based on "judging". Depending on what a person believes, this benchmark is created. But it is not so clear as even that...For Christians, the standard is the Bible and trying to live as Christ lived; however, Christians interpretations of what that means are widely varied! For non-Christians, the standards are also all over the place.

A President was recently elected in this country primarily based on a campaign that promised "change." This appealed to masses...such as the message that Mr. Andrews is sharing.

That said, keep on, keepin' on, Mr. Andrews. Hat's off to you for sharing and motivating some of the populace to...something! I often think if we'd all spend LESS time blogging or whatever, we'd all be farther ahead (but I'm taking time to comment anyway so I best get off this beastly machine!)."

"You are absolutely right. I am 51 and there is a lot of things I see that I question and wonder how did we get to this place. How did things get so mixed up and confused. Many have lost touch with God, nature, humanity and themselves. We have forgotten that we were created in God's image. We all have an inner strength that when called upon can indeed move mountains. I myself will not live in fear, I strive to walk knowing my God walks with me and trusting in all he has given. Gandhi said "You must be the change you wish to see in the world" I believe it has to start with me. I change and my world changes. Michael Jackson's song "Man in the Mirror" comes to my mind.
I was recently talking with someone about creating a WOW in my life, something big, if I can be a link in the chain to build the ark, I'm in.

Thanks for all that you do. You are a source of inspiration for many. I have given and shared your books with everyone I know. I personally believe The Travelers Gift should be in the classrooms around the globe. I say if you breath you need to read it."

"Ahoy, mate!

I've got a bone to pick with you, my friend! My brother in Arab tells me YOU said HE was the better looking one between us!? I shall send you a discount coupon for new corrective lenses...HA!

No bones to pick with your topic about where we are and where we're heading, though... therefore, I thought I'd weigh in with my support and thoughts. On the sobering thought of "where we are," Judges 17:6 observes, "In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes." I don't think God will mind that we take a little artistic license with His Truth by substituting, "God in America" for "king in Israel." The prospects of this sobering portrait turn downright bleak because Proverbs 14:12 tells us where that leads: "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." Okay, 'nuff of the doom and gloom. Now on to the brighter side of Hope...

I love "Build An Ark" and have heard it many times. While we're on this nautical theme (ark building and #61, Woody Woods, pulling at the oars for freedom and all) I would encourage everyone to PRAY that God will turn this ship we call America away from the rocky shoals towards which she sails. We can reach no safe harbor without a moral compass (okay, make that a good GPS). I know of none better, and none other than "the Way, the Truth and the Light."

"Build An Ark" came out in 1984 on the album/cassette (whatever) entitled "New Point of View, by The New Gaither Vocal Band (Cut 6). You and everyone else might want to listen to Cut 8 from the same (whatever). It's called, "I Am The Lighthouse." While "Build An Ark" might be a cut above this one (make that "2" cuts above), it is nonetheless profound and it best illustrates my sermonette here. I found it online (youtube.com) at this address:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8H5CPFCtXM

(My apologies for the pic of the guy who could use a shirt and a belt! I'm not real sure what he has to do with the song--the pic certainly wasn't from the album cover--but it's the only place I found it for free listening.)

So, first pray for our nation, but then put some feet to those prayers. And, pointing/leading people in the right direction who are within each of our own spheres of influence is a good first step.

Continue to be a pointer/leader of The Way and thanks for all you do!

Later...

d"

"Hi Andy, you surely don't remember, but I vividly remember sitting in a Communications classroom with you at Auburn some 30 years ago when you were honing your comedy skills as the class clown. And years later, I rediscovered you as a man that had grown beyond the "funny guy" to a man with an incredible gift for story telling...sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, always thought provoking.

I have enjoyed following your career and look forward to the next chapter, whatever that may look like. I have always believed that we all come into this world with unique gifts...all different...but equally valuable gifts. Our mission from God is to share those gifts with others around us in ways that influence them to be better, wiser, more loving people. I applaud you for sharing your gifts with me...and so many others. Don't ever stop giving them away!"

"Andy, you have hit the nail on the head. Change does start with one person and can affect generations. I am there with you. I have enjoyed reading your books ... I have struggled to apply the principals to my life, but I continue on the journey to becoming the man God intends me to be. Your writing has a lot to do with that!

I am so grateful to my friend Neil who handed me a copy of "The Travelers Gift". He told me "You have got to read this ... it will change the way you look at life" ... and it has. Neil and I have some lengthy discussion about life and we always come back to two things ... what does God's word say about it and which of the seven pricipals addresses it?

I have been promoting your books to my friends via email and FaceBook and I will continue to do so. If you want my input, you got it.

Thank you for doing what you do! I believe it is making a difference.

God bless you and your family, Andy! Keep writing ... you are a blessing and an encouragement to many. Thank you!"

I hope you don't mind if I call you by your first name. I've read your books and your blogs. You're amazing! I sometimes catch myself wishing these things were happening to me... perhaps they have and I just didn't notice... But now I will.
I've always been an advocate of choice. I believe that is what separates us from the animals... freedom of choice; given by God to use for right and wrong, it's our choice. Do you agree? Anyway, I'm rambling, but I want you to know this.... your writings have inspired me to make the choice to step out of my 'circle of comfort' and do something about/ with the rest of my life, make a difference, in others' lives as well as my own. I don't expect it to be easy and that's okay.

Thank you for choosing to write and speak, you have made a difference in my life and I thank God for directing me to you.

Take care.

What encouraging words I've just heard from your blog. All that you've said is true and you hit the nail on the head when talking about the way things use to be and the it is today. I have two beautiful daughters ages 4 and 10. The way our society is going I'm really concerned about the way things will be in 5 years. But to be honest with you I'm raising them in a good christian home with the guidance of the good LORD(JESUS)and HIS word.I'm not perfect, but I'm being led by someone who is.That's where I put my faith. I also have to mention my lovely wife Ericka who happens to put up with all my goofiness. By the way I'm the service rep from Choice Books who has been putting out your new book the Noticer in the Publix in Orange beach and the Emporium and several other stores in Baldwin county. "Andy,
I want to hear more!! I first saw you @ a praise gathering and you so have inspired me. I believe that it is each one of us working together that can be and build an ark. I have worked @ a Domestic Violence shelter for over 20 yrs. The first hospitals, social service workers were people of faith. Since then it seems so often that The Church has handed that gift, that blessing, (and I do see it as a gift and a blessing) to the government, to different agencies. I believe that it is time for people of faith to recieve the gift, and to do something by coming together as groups, communities, and as a nation to share and give hope. and your right it's not the kings, pesidents ect...that have the power only that which we choose to give them. It is us together collectively that can change our neighboehoods, communities, our nation even the world. As long as The Lord is with us who can be against us?
I know i'm going on, but I want to share one last thing with you. A few years ago I was @ work reading in 1st peter and I felt collect bookbags for the homeless. Now, my first thought was maybe I need more meds! ( I had suffered from agoraphobia, anxiety for years, that's another testimony) anyways I blew it off, but the thought would not leave my brain. I knew it was from the Lord, I even suggested that he recheck his books and make sure he had the right person. Finially, I did it used bookbags some toileties, hat, glove and a God Bless. Last year, I had over 300, Welfare started thier own as did several other places, It has slowly spread the community is starting to come together and help. I guess this is to say to you and everyone it only takes one person to start share and wathch in amazement. I'm anxiouly waiting to help build the ark!!!

"Wonderful thoughts as usual!

I only wish I had known you spoke at the Zackary Rotary Club because I would have been there or had you come talk to the Baton Rouge Rotary Club!

I am also seeing changes in our scoiety like I have never seen before. The health care issue is bringing to the surface fundamental difference in how people view the role of goverment in society. I fear that we are rushing into changes that will reshape the American culture away from independence toward codependence.

I, like you, have had it with both parties!

The Republicans did nothing for 8 years leading go the colaspe of the economy. Wide spread financial embezzlement due to the lack of regulatory oversight has resulted in many people in our Baton Rouge community loosing the entire retirement with the Stanford Group. Goverment does have a responsibility to protect the public.

The Democrats are trying to take advantage of the situation and swing us in the opposite direction toward socialism. We can not afford to give the goverment greater control of our health insurance. Social Security is at risk of colaspe, how do we think the government can manage health care? The Democrats really want more control of our money through greater taxation.

There has to be a middle ground. I am so tired of hearing Rush Limbaugh but I am equally tired of the bias in the national media. I am tired of the public being manipulated!

We need a moderate, center of the road voice of reason. I am not talking about a political negociator between the two parties, i.e. John McCain. I am talking about a real common sense moderate who is independent of both parties.

Andy, START a movement! I think you will be surprised by the support you will get!"

In Arkansas we say your life is "out of balance" if you spend more nights at deer camp with your buds than you do in a hotel or condo with your wife. I know this is not your case but I read a deep search for the right answer going on. Check out my web site and click on the big red buttton "Life Resume Update Sample". It has the bucket story that was told to me by a mentor when my girls were young. I'm a farm kid & was in the FFA (Future Farmers of America) but now my FFA is my Faith, Family and Anything else. "I really feel what you are feeling. I have noticed a big change in manners, opinions, and a whole lot a anger these days. I know when there is financial drain, fear sets in..we must overcome the fear and have peace in our lives so we can be a light in a very dark world. I am fully on board with you. You have such a gift in writing and speaking. You draw us in and help us grow and question why we are here and what can we do to better America, and ourselves.
Good Job in stepping out !
God's blessings to you and your family.

"Andy,

You seem to b on a track that many of us are on. As we age, around 50, we become much more aware of our need to be useful & powerful ( in the best way). Please, if you have not, read David Hawkins- Power vs Force for some solid advice on how to measure the "rightness" of any ideas you intend to implement. I have recently noted that the healthcare debate would be solved completely abd simply by using this simple technique. Carry on with the goodness of you spirit leading you. The kind & loving folks of this world are always walking with you.
All my love,

"Andy,
An addendem to my previous remarks;
I have just watched the You Tube video & while it's a fun song with plenty of great energy, please be aware of the underlying message. We must embrace all that we perceive before we can effect it positively. To 'build an arc' to shut out the things we don't like or agree with is to reject a significant part of what we are being asked to learn. We don't have to like it, but we do have to accept it. If God is love, and God made EVERYTHING, then there is nought but love to be perceived. It remains for us to find a way to shape our perceptions to SEE the love. I am far from the best I can be at this particular chore, but I am daily gaining in my awareness of where I, and by reflection my society and world fall short. Please consider this as you proceed with your journey. We are a multitude of facets of the same whole. Namaste
Dawn"

"Thank you Andy for taking up the torch. i have thought for some time that we are not teaching our children in the school systems how to realy think or reason. we need to teach our kids financial iq, how to use logic and techniques for being better stewards with our time, talents and treasures. i eventually would like to teach a class to highschool seniors or college freshman the very things i listed above but do not really know how to go about it."

"Hi Andy,

Thanks for your note and for your inspiration to get out and make a difference in the world. Thank you too for the challenge to look into ourselves, to search for our own truth, just as you are doing now. I really do appreciate your transparency.

I love your books, and am half way through your traveler's guide. I try and do one exercise a day--Just to get me thinking!

I look forward to reading your blog and to being a part of your team (cyberspace team) as we move forward in helping to create changes in our world. We all have our own corners in this world, and it is amazing what an individual can accomplish.

Thank you for your inspiration. Oh, and to answer all of your questions about "should I do this or that? Who is more important? etc." It is my belief that you are changing lives in massive as well as, minuscule ways. And which is better? Making huge changes, or subtle gentle changes? Who is to decide? Perhaps what is a small change to one person, is monumental to another. Or perhaps those small changes mount upon another, and culminate in a huge change overall. Small changes can result in exponential results. Your impact on any person you meet, speak to or pray for is sincerely felt. I know, for never having met you, you have made a difference in my life."

"Andy I was just thinking of you this morning as I was planning a blog post on the reasons I make time for facebook. Some popular figures use the social media for merely business promotion, and may even have their assistants post for them. Most of us are really too busy and obligated in life to spend time on the computer at all. But I love the opportunity to connect and make a difference in my peers. You are a shining example of someone who does not have to be there, but is baring his soul and sharing what he can. We all feel like we know you personally, no matter the connection, and I thank you for your effort to connect and give and make a difference. It is an inspiration to me as I contemplate how my own efforts will make the biggest difference in my commnuity. I look forward to hearing more of your heart."

"Andy,
You inspire the best in each of us. I love your stories. I heard you first 10 years ago or more. I write biographies and children's illustrated books and musicals. I am over 50 now and want to make a difference. I need to get my books out again. One of my favorites is by my son who is 19 entitled, Cock-a-doodle-doo, I Love You. We have sold it to friends and neighbors, but nationally, nobody has ever seen it. My son has a heart transplant and it is difficult to stay focused on selling books, when he is in a crisis moment, but he would like to share this messege of love instead of hate. I love the books that you have written; they have given insight and direction. Keep thinking out loud. Don't stop.

"Hey Andy,

I'm already linked to you with Facebook, and follow your twitter/blogs...not to mention am your biggest book fan (can't tell you how many of the Noticer I've given out and told others about how wonderful it is!)...as well as the Travelers Gift (I've read that one 3 times) and the Noticer twice! lol... I love your honesty and your insight... and will be following you along this journey, and if I can offer any help I will...I too am at a cross road where I am making some life changing decisions at the age of almost 50... I am not afraid, I am excited and looking foreward to a more postive and productive happy life... sometimes we have to make some hard choices (& changes) that are necessary to move foreward to the life that God has planned for us.
Blind Faith is not easy...but where there is LOVE it is! God Bless you Andy and keep thinking and writing...we will all learn from this... CJ Adams"

We met a number of years ago in another business. I hear what you are saying. I am not sure what the next steps are. I am anxious to lead a happier, more positive life that has greater meaning. I too think about the future for my sons and what they may face. I offer any assistance and support for your efforts. You do inspire the best in all of us. May God bless your efforts and your quest. Keep writing so we can all bring the world to its senses one person at a time. If you ever need anything when you visit the Detroit area, don't hesitate to call on me. I will respond.

"Hi Andy,
I met you in the Delta Crown Room a while back and what you had to say to me that day was perfect timing. I was having one of the worst days of my life. I am again going through a rough period and would appreciate your prayers for my brother, Lloyd Brown, who has liver cancer. My mother is 95 years old and is helping him at home and she is exhausted. I am up there all the time when I am not working. I am asking God for a miracle for my brother. Please pray for him and for my family. Back to your topic,"Here We Go", I'm in. Once again your timing is perfect. In the last few months, my thoughts are in sync with yours. I am so concerned about the way this country is going. It is not the same country that I have known. I have 4 grown children and a grandson who is three. What challenges will they be facing?? As we move forward and seek God through prayer, we can make a difference. That day in Nashville, you made a hugh difference in my life. You gave me a copy of the Traveler's Gift and autographed it with the word
Persist. A good word as we face the call for our nation. We must persist and rise up to face the enemy and the challenges in front of us not only for our sake, but for our children and grandchildren to come. God bless you Andy. Thanks for your words to me that day. This is the moment for change. We must do all that we can to change our country back to the Godly nation that it once was. Andy, let's build an arc. I am so happy to be "in"."

"Andy,
You of all people don't need to do all this questioning.
You're right on track - teaching, guiding, inspiring, influencing, enlightening people - like me, who then go on and use your materials to guide, inspire influence others. I have purchased numerous copies of The Traveler's Gift - my gift of choice for high school graduates - and two years ago the gift I gave each of my children with the simple request - that for Mother's Day - all I wanted was to discuss the book. We'll not discuss that now. Now I want to buy copies of The Noticer, my daughter and her boyfriend need to read that before they are more.
And while reading it on vacation - I found myself walking around Gulf Shores and Pensacola - wondering - Are you Jones? Even went to some of the places you met with him.
Then went to Fairhope - to eat at Panini Petes after seeing in on the Food Network and stopped in the little bookstore down the road to find we were leaving town a couple days too soon - as they were having the Reading of the Noticer that Thursday.
No, I'm not stalking you. We were going to Gulf Shores before I ever heard of you, but now - all I want is to just bump into my favorite author!

Andy, you provide nourishment for the mind and soul. You give perspective. Don't stop doing what you are doing - whatever that may be. But keep in mind it's not just the people at the top - the executives that benefit from your words. Those of us in the trenches benefit from what you have to say and some of us would love the opportunity to experience Andy Andrews live.
If you ever come to the Pittsburgh, PA area - email me. Sorry - don't do Facebook - not while I teach emotionally disturbed high school students - I'll explain whenever we meet (I"m thinking positively) and Twitter - I just don't get it. Heck a good Pittsburgh dinner will be on me when you come - we'll sit and talk. Oh by the way - what I attempt to teach those ED high school students is History!

Keep up the good work, and keep cranking out the books. While in Fairhope I bought Sawyerton Springs (I think that's the title - it's over on the book case and I'm too lazy to get up) the only other one I don't have is your Christmas story - I noticed it on the website.

Sorry - I got wordy on your blog.
Frances"

"Hi Andy,
Great message! I met you about 2 years ago when you came thru Troy, AL. You stopped in the Pioneer Museum and I owned the gift shop at that time. You gave me a couple of magazines in which you were featured. My wife and I also seen you speaking on PBS. I have just finished The Travelers Gift and am currently reading The Lost Choice. I sincerely appreciate your writings and also your inspiration from your words. I am looking forward to meeting you again. My wife is an award winning artist, (she does paintings on feathers) and we will be at Heritage Harbor Days in Foley, AL in November. If you are speaking anywhere around there, I hope to be able to visit. Where will I be able to find a schedule of your speaking engagements? I will friend you on Facebook, maybe I can follow better that way.
Once again, thank you for your words and all the encouragement and inspiration. I am 62 years of age and had a serious drinking problem for 30+ years of my life and as of December, 2009 will be sober for 20 years.
Thanks again,
Keith Blankenship"

Besides having a great first name you are a wonderful and inspirational writer. The Noticer came to me at a time in my life when things were not looking good. The words from you and Jones in the pages of that book really helped me get through those difficult times. Keep up the good work and thanks for making Andy's everywhere look great!!!"

"In preparation for the Allied invasion of Europe, on what would come to be called "D-Day", The Army Chief of Staff, George Marshall summoned a committee that would select the Allied General In Command of the invasion.

The finest generals with battlefront experience were interviewed to find out how they would carry out the invasion, then move forward across Europe to defeat the German Army.

Generals like Patton, Omar Bradley, Montgomery, Eisenhower, and more were called before the committee to explain how they would get the job done.

One by one, each general boldly and confidently turned to a large map of Europe on the wall. using a long pointer to indicate where each allied army would attack.

Then came Eisenhower...

When General Marshall asked Eisenhower how he would proceed, Eisenhower said, "Sir, I need I need to pray, to ask God for His guidance before I may answer your question".

"Very well."

When Eisenhower left the room, the committee immediately selected Eisenhower to lead the invasion."

"Andy,
Your words are inspiring, yes, thought provoking and insightful just to name a few. . . and I thank you and am so very grateful our paths have crossed.
But, after reading your blog with so many folks mentioning pray and prayer, etc. this last one #144 provoked me to be compelled to type the following of a few things I've noticed:
That this same (our)government has taken prayer out of the class rooms of our children. Deemed it unconstitutional to display God's commandments. Forbid pastors in the (our) military for praying in Jesus' name...and it goes on and on. I don't know. Do something? I'm thinking we need to get our heads out of the clouds or out of the sand and perhaps become more informed? And then what, and I don't know. Pray.
Thank you Andy for sharing your thoughts and writings. They have been encouraging when encouragement was needed, uplifting and thought provoking. Thank you."

"Hi Andy,

First time I've visited your site and am loving it. On Saturday, my sister (aged 48) and myself (aged 43) were talking about our lives and we were asking each other what we wanted to do for the next 20 years. Shew, I have often joked that I hope I'll know what I want to be when I grow up - well I am grown up and I am the person I want to be, but how on earth I want to spend the second half of my life is just a mystery. Seems I spent the first half just getting by - and that is sad.

I'll be back for more and will be purchasing of your books!

God bless"

"Andy--

I am 48 and just started following you the other day when I began listening to your YouTube posts on the Butterfly Effect. I have been thinking many of the same things you have written about and in my own way have been attempting to find my mission in this life through my own blog. I find your story telling ability to be an enormous gift as you can communicate concepts quite effectively through your oratory. Thank you. God Bless. Keep on keepin' on."
